Voters Electoral Roll to be ready before Writs

The Voter’s Electoral Roll for the 2017 National Election will be ready before the Writs are Issued on April 20.

Electoral Commissioner Patililas Gamato announced today that 94 per cent of the voters’ Electoral Roll is completed.

“At the moment 59 districts had their preliminary rolls printed and dispatched to them for public display and verification.”

“Preliminary rolls for 20 provinces are now with the printers for printing while only four provinces are still doing data entry,” Gamato said.

He explained that from the total of 6,227 wards in the country 5,836 wards have had their preliminary ward rolls completed, and only 391 wards left.       

PNG Electoral Commission statistics provided showed that Eastern Highlands, Jiwaka, Morobe, Bougainville, East New Britain, Manus, Central, National Capital District, West Sepik, and Hela Provinces have reached 100 per cent of roll update.  

Milne Bay, Western Highlands, New Ireland, West New Britain, East Sepik, Northern, Gulf, and Western -99 per cent.

Enga reaching 98 per cent followed by Madang on 92 per cent, Southern Highlands 73 per cent and Chimbu 38 per cent.   

Gamato said that when the roll display and verification is closed, all preliminary rolls will be sent back to PNGEC headquarters for finalization and certification for printing of the finalised roll for the 2017 National Election.

“Preliminary rolls display and verification will end by March 31, 2017 and all the preliminary rolls will be finalised and certified by me for printing before April 20, 2017 when the Writs are issued.”
