Rita Flynn counting yet to resume

Counting at the Rita Flynn Indoor Complex is yet to resume.

Loop PNG was on location this morning to observe the movement of scrutineers, officials and security into the venue, which hosts the Moresby North-West and NCD regional counting.

The strip of road, once populated with small time businesses and betelnut sales, have all been cleared out by police forces.

This is due to incidents that have happened in recent times outside the Rita Flynn gates.

Police stationed on site say the place had to be cleared for the safety of the officials.

They have pushed all small markets back past the end points of both roads leading in to the gate of Rita Flynn, allowing only counting officials and two scrutineers of each candidate to enter the venue.

Counting is yet to start.

Since this morning, no scrutineer or sales person has gone past the red cones of both road ends yet.

Police say they are expecting a quiet day up until when counting resumes today, which will be any time after lunch.
