Polling starts in Bougainville

Polling has commenced today in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville (AROB).

The distribution of ballot papers from Arawa police station to the three regions; North, South and Central Bougainville, started on the weekend.

Ballot papers for nearby areas were dispatched this morning.

Security personnel include seven correctional service officers, 64 regular police personnel and assistance from the New Zealand Police.

The 64 regular police personnel have been split into two teams; the polling team and response team.

Central Bougainville Police Regional Commander Spencer Aila told Loop PNG that the response team has been dispatched to the districts and is on standby to assist.

Aila said the response team will be assisting the security manpower stationed on ground if any situation arises.

There are 187 polling teams for AROB consisting of 935 polling officials for the three electorates with five polling officials and one police officer per team.
