NCD police beef up operations

Police in NCD are now preparing for the counting period for the 2017 National Elections.

NCD Metropolitan Superintendent Commander Ben Turi says that the security operations for the NCD elections process will be lifted up a notch in preparation for the counting period and eventually the declaration.

Turi is adamant that all operations will flow smoothly into the beginning of the counting period set for some time this week.

He adds that the incident that occurred yesterday at the Rita Flynn courts has forced police security to be beefed up.

The NCD Metropolitan Superintendent described the incident as being forced upon by desperate candidates.

Yesterday’s occurrence had caused the police to use force which resulted in a couple of shots fired to fend off the rowdy crowd outside the courts.

Turi said – police are now manning the entrance of the courts with extra man power with restrictions now placed on the number of people present at the premises of the courts.

He says while it is acceptable for supporters to be present at the location, it becomes somewhat of a public hazard for the general public – thus there needs to be control.

TVWAN was at the scene around 11am this morning and observed the lack of number of people around the premises since the incident yesterday – there is however an increase in police presence.
