NCD Candidates alleged foul play by police

Candidates in the National Capital District presented a third petition to Electoral Commissioner, Patilias Gamato, following an incident on Sunday night which allege foul play by the Police.

Just as media were leaving the Electoral Commissioner’s media conference on Monday several candidates and their supporters walked in to present their petition.

The petition was read out by NCD Regional Candidate, Andy Bawa, who alleged that the incident in which police chased out scrutineers and electoral officers from the Rita Flynn Sports Complex  was a ploy to illegally move in three ballot boxes.

He further alleges that NCD Metropolitan Superintendent, Ben Turi is behind the alleged ploy in favor of certain candidates.

“The way you are doing things it raises a lot of questions as to which side you are on,” said Bawa.

What transpired sparked outrage amongst candidates who have written up a separate petition to NCD/Central Commander, Silvester Kalaut, and Police Commissioner, Gary Baki, to stand down Turi from the election operation.

They have also informed Gamato to adhere to their petition which include:

  • The installation of CCTV cameras in all counting venues;
  • All counting to be conducted during the day and not at night;
  • Electronic counting to be done at all counting venues:

The Commissioner said he will respond to the petition on Tuesday after the scheduled daily media conference.
