Kairuku-Hiri counting delayed again

Counting for the Kairuku-Hiri Open seat has been delayed again.

It was scheduled to take place this morning however, due to administrative matters, it has been delayed to later this afternoon at the Bomana Correctional Service.

Returning officer Tabu Vaira said the delay is mainly to do with the submission of returns by the presiding officers.

Vaira confirmed that counting will commence with the ballot boxes from the Hiri LLG.

There are a total of 41 ballot boxes from the four LLGs, Mekeo, Kairuku, Koiari and Hiri.

Counting is scheduled to take place from 8am to 11pm daily with only one shift consisting of about 50 counting officials.

Vaira said Kairuku-Hiri is the biggest electorate in Central Province so he has requested for two counting shifts.

The Kairuku-Hiri Electorate has a total of 27 candidates vying for the seat.

Supporters and scrutineers are camping outside the counting venue.
