Hotspot market will be closed: Turi

The hotspot market of Six-Mile will be closed during the one-day polling in the nation’s capital.

This was announced today by NCD Metropolitan Superintendent, Ben Turi, at a public meet with election officials and joint security forces at the Rita Flynn complex in Port Moresby.

Turi said this is because the market is a breeding area for criminal activities.

He said come Tuesday, the local and international media will be fixated upon Papua New Guinea in that one time in every five years that PNG goes into polling to vote for their leaders.

He warned members of the general public that the joint forces will not tolerate misbehavior.

He told the elections officials and security personnel that they will also be looked upon by the general public and with this day and age, technology will play a crucial role in catching any illegal activities made to disrupt the election process.

“I encourage everyone and anyone to capture anything and everything suspicious and report to police as soon as possible,” he said.

He reassured the officials and the public that the forces are ready and that police will be on watch to disrupt any issues that might arise during this period.
