Gamato commends Tari-Pori electorate for delivering successful election

Electoral Commissioner Patilias Gamato has heaps praise for Tari Pori electorate for becoming the first to return the writ for the Member elect James Marape today.

He said a lot of people have spoken negative about the 2017 National Elections but the people of Tari-Pori have come in big numbers to deliver their member-elect.

He added that this tells a different but a good and successful story which also indicated that the LPV Electoral System is a proven and tested system.

Gamato made these remarks during the official presentation of the return of writs for the Tari-Pori electorate today.

Gamato said despite all the critics, he is confident that the 2017 National Election will not be a failure.

He said the LPV electoral system is capable of delivering members of parliament just as it did this morning.

“In the next couple of days, many more results will come in and it will be reassuring to see people speak through the ballot for the formation of the next government,” he said.

Member-elect James Marape said it is encouraging to see electorates in the back drop of the nation’s capital conduct peaceful, safe and fair election.

He added that other electorates can learn from the Tari-Pori and Hela experience.

Tari-Pori Open writ will remain with Commissioner Gamato until such time when all other writs are presented to him.

The writs will be returned to Governor General Bob Dadae on or before July 24th at the government house.

His Excellency Governor General will then invite the political party with the highest number of elected members to form the 9th parliament.
