EC reinstates returning officer

The returning officer for Moresby North-East electorate has been reinstated by the Electoral Commission.

This is due to the lack of evidence on the alleged allegations against him that transpired on social media about payments received from a candidate.

Returning officer, Thomas Rango, dismissed social media allegations about him receiving payment of any sort from any candidate contesting in the North-East electorate.

Rango was detained by police but was later released again this morning.

Rango says he is clear of any allegations made against him, adding that the picture of the deposit slip with the account number on it is not his, nor does he have any account with BSP.

He urges those going and ranting on social media that unless they have evidence, they present it to police.

"For now, I will continue my designated duties as transparently as possible and move this session quickly to declare a candidate for Moresby North-East."
