Country Party to declare candidates this week

Country Party will be looking at endorsing 50 candidates in the coming national elections.

Party president Nelson Duwabane said the party was formed before PNG gained its Independence, and had contested in every election since.     

He stated that the party executive committee will meet this week to deliberate on recommendations by its screening committee.

The issue of writs and nomination for 2017 National Elections will be opened on April 20.

Duwabane said the party is looking at contesting 50 seats nationwide, for the 111 seats in Parliament.

The Party’s four main platforms are called REAP strategy, which stands for Rural Development including rural infrastructure in transport, communication, health and education; Enterprise – support to business in fair and free enterprise ; Agriculture and Agro-industry and Prosperity through poverty alleviation.
