Election boss raises concern on funding

Eastern Highlands Election Manager Steven Koupa has raised concerns on the financial constraints his team might be facing.

However, he is confident to deliver the election in the province on time despite this financial situation.

He said this election is dedicated to the people and they cannot sit and worry about the funding but to go ahead with the polling schedules.

Koupa told Loop PNG that the funds budgeted to them was less compared to the previous elections.

He claims they were only given K900,000 for the election operations.

“So far, we have used about K600,000 for logistics to send our teams to the polling venues while the remaining K300,000 will be used for setting up counting venues.”

Koupa said with this limited funding, they were forced to tighten their budget and spend within limits.

Meanwhile, Koupa has expressed his gratitude to the Police, PNG Defence Force and Correctional Services personnel for working closely with them to make this election fair and transparent.
