Yangoru man ordained a priest

Priesthood ordained on a Yangoru man to look after a parish in Yangoru Station.

Deacon Paul Kaji from Pachen village in the East Yangoru LLG was ordained early this week to the status of a Priest by Catholic Bishop of the Wewak Diocese, Bishop Jozef Roszynski at the St Thomas Catholic Church at Yangoru.

The ordination which marks the first for the Catholic community in the Yangoru  Saussia District of East Sepik Province.

The Parish since its establishment 64 years ago never had a local parish priest apart from missionaries who went there to serve the parish.

Bishop Jozef said the province currently has 22 clergies serving in 48 parishes; many parishes still don’t have priests.

Deacon Paul Kaji’s ordination follows 10 years of pastoral experiences apart from his seminary education at Bomana Seminary College in Port Moresby.

He completed his Primary Education at St Thomas Primary School and High school at Yangoru High School before pursuing his interest to be a Catholic clergy by attending seminary in 2003.

Bishop Jozef said the ordination is God’s calling.

“A priest plays a role of a Shepard in society to look after the spiritual needs of the people by helping them to come closer to God.”

Meanwhile, Local MP and Minister for Trade Commerce and Industry, Richard Maru who is also Paul Kaji’s cousin brother described the ordination as a proud moment and a big achievement for the immediate family and relatives of Paul Kanji.

He thanked the Catholic Church for shaping and grooming him to be what he is now and further urged the Church to continue to do that.
