Women empowerment in Sports

Cricket PNG (CPNG) today marked the Commemoration of International Women’s Day declaring there are no barriers in any sports.

The Girls Empowerment through Cricket program, launched today, is a development program initiated by CPNG and supported by Australian Aid to use cricket as the vehicle for change to empower young girls in Secondary schools.

Coinciding with International women’s Day, CPNG has decided to celebrate the launch of the program to show respect, appreciation and love towards all girls and women in the country.

The main aim of the program is to increase female participation in playing hard ball cricket and empower young girls through educational sessions.

CPNG has invited female students from Secondary schools in NCD:  Gordons Secondary, Marianville Catholic Secondary, Jubilee catholic Secondary and Tokarara Secondary to join in at the occasion to meet some PNG cricket super heroes Asad Vala, Jack Vare (c) from the Barramundis and the PNG Lewa’s to get the opportunity to ask questions about cricket and how they are at that level to represent the country.
