Woman guilty for stealing over K200,000 phone credits

A woman who was an employee of Oceania Communication has been convicted by the Waigani National Court for stealing over K200,000 worth of Digicel credits.

Glenda Nugai was found guilty by the Court today after she admitted to allegations she transferred K232,000 worth of Digicel credits on 25 different occasions to a man, known to the court as Norman Ilikis, who sold the credits.

This allegedly took place between a period of three months, from 21 Nov 2014 to Jan 31, 2015.

“The saying goes; watch your habit, it becomes your character. People who steal, the first time they do it, they are scared. The second time you get confident and after a while you develop a crocodile skin thinking that nothing will touch you,” Deputy Chief Justice Sir Gibbs Salika told Nugai in court.

“After 25 transactions you were very confident. You had a good thing going. It became too good to let go. I find you guilty as charged,” he added.

Nugai in her record of interview with police admitted doing the transactions and said she was forced to transfer the credits in order to partly benefit from the sales.

But when in court, she said she was threatened by Norman to make the transactions or harm would come her way.

Nugai remains on bail and is expected back in court on Dec 13.
