Woman’s story not true, witness tells court

The sister of a man standing trial at the Waigani National Court today told the court that the complainant’s story alleging she was repeatedly raped by her brother in 2010 is not true.

She took to the witness stand today (Tuesday afternoon) and told the court that the woman who alleged she was raped by her brother, Nigel Kipma, of Wosea, East Sepik Province was not true and she wanted to tell the court her brother’s side of the story.

She said her brother; (Nigel) was in a relationship with the complainant when the alleged offense took place between Dec 10 and Dec 15, 2010 at the Institute of Public Administration residential area.

The witness told the court although their parents did not know of their relationship, the whole community in the residential area knew.

She was called in today to give evidence in the trial after her brother pleaded not guilty to one count of abduction and eight counts of aggravate rape.

The matter is expected back in court next week where submissions will be done by Kipma’s lawyers and the State on his verdict.

The State in reading the allegations against Kipma on Aug 10 said he and the complainant were in a relationship back in August 2010, however no consent was given by the victim during the time of the alleged offense in December.

State alleges he abducted the complaint after threatening her with a knife and took her a house at the compound where he raped her while she was on her period. He later took her to his parents’ house, confined her in his room and continued raping her over the next five days.

On his arrest on Jan 7, 2011, Kipma chose to remain silent and declined to answer any question by police during the record of interview at the Police station.
