Wobiro still awaits bail

Western Governor Ati Wobiro is still being detained at the Waigani National Court holding cell.

Governor Wobiro, Western Provincial Administrator Dr Modowa Gumoi, and the founder of Fly Care Foundation Inc., Norman Carl May, were taken up to Bomana late yesterday afternoon.

They were brought back to Waigani this morning and are awaiting an urgent bail application.

Loop PNG confirmed that Wobiro’s lawyers will be filing that bail application this afternoon. The application has to show exceptional circumstances.

They will file for bail under section 10 of the bail act. A bail application filed under section 10 of the bail act seeks bail after conviction and before sentencing.

Wobiro, Dr Gumoi and May's families and supporters have been waiting at the Waigani Courthouse since this morning.

Yesterday, the National Court found the three guilty to have conspired in establishing the Fly Care Foundation between January 1 and December 30, 2013, by using K7,060,00 funding from the provincial government.

They conspired to misappropriate funds through a memorandum of agreement between Governor Wobiro and May for the Foundation to deliver projects in the province.
