Wisil completes triple triumph

Toea Wisil gave the home crowd their money's worth as she won her third gold in the XV Pacific Games in the 200 metre race tonight.

In front of a packed BSP Stadium, close to 15,000 people shouted in unison, Toea, Toea, and wanted nothing more but for their sprint queen to dominate.

Wisil did not disappoint, winning the event in style two metres ahead of the pack, as the vocal crowd went wild.

“I want to thank my sponsor – BSP, coaches and all you who have attended,” Wisil said in tok pisin after her race.

She also thanked  the government for building the infrastructure for the games.

Her mother was in the crowd with tears in her eyes, and told Loop PNG in tok pisin that she was very happy to see Toea win.

Wisil has defended her gold medal in the 100m, 200m and 400m races and can claim the crown of the queen of the Pacific tracks for another four years.

She was also part of the successful 4x400m women’s relay team that won gold tonight.

Wisil won with a time of 24.34 seconds, while the Fijian duo of Younis Bese (25.21s) and Sisilia Seavula (25.41s) settled for silver and bronze medals respectively.
