Wingei primary to get high school status

Plans are in place to develop Wingei Primary School in West Yangoru LLG, of East Sepik Province, into a junior high school.

This was revealed by Yangoru-Saussia District Development Authority CEO, Fantson Yaninen, when opening district-funded projects at the school last week.

Yaninen committed the DDA support to fund Wingei Primary School until it gets the junior high school status.

He also revealed that under the chairmanship of the local MP and Minister for Trade, Commerce & Industry, Richard Maru, a total of 70 classrooms had been built throughout all primary schools in the district, along with 50 staff houses.

Wingei primary, which serves students from West Yangoru and Maprik district, witnessed the opening of a four-in-one double-storey classroom and a teacher’s house. The project was valued at K150,000.

Yaninen further announced a K30,000 funding commitment by Minister Maru towards the construction of a new classroom for the feeder elementary school for Wingei Primary School.

Meanwhile, Kusambuk Primary School in the district will be recruiting its first batch of Grade Nine students next year.
