Vaki trial set for December

Trial dates into charges of perverting the course of Justice and official corruption against former Police Commissioner Geoffrey Vaki have been set by the National Court.

Geoffrey Vaki and his lawyer Sam Bonner appeared before Deputy Chief Justice Sir Gibbs Salika at Waigani this morning.

All parties have filed the Pre-trial Review statement before the court and the matter (trial) has been set for December 16-17, 2015.

The state made it known this morning that most of the witnesses it will be calling will be members of the Royal PNG Constabulary based in Port Moresby.

Vaki is facing allegations of attempting to pervert the course of justice and abuse of official powers.

These charges emanate from his refusal to execute a warrant of arrest against Prime Minister Peter O’Neill last year.
