Update: Robbers dash off with K1.2m at Jacksons domestic airport

A robbery took place this morning at the Jacksons Airport domestic terminal.

Airport Commander Robert Wane confirmed with Loop PNG this afternoon that a cash amount of K1.2 million was stolen.

The money was on its way to Kiunga in Daru.

The five suspects came in a white Ford Ranger.

Two waited in the car at the airport car park while three of the suspects, armed with pistols walked into the domestic terminal dressed in brown khaki disguised as guards.

They headed straight for the Tropic Air counter and departure lounge where the money was checked in to be loaded into the charted flight.

As the money was being loaded by Tropic Air staff into the plane, the armed men held the staff up at gun point and told them to keep still in the loading area.

The staff were threatened that if they made any move to call for help, they would get hurt.

The three men gathered about 6 to 7 bags containing the money and walked out through the domestic terminal, getting on the white Ford Ranger and drove off.

Commander Wane says police were made aware of the incident but arrived some 10 minutes late after the suspects took off.

Wane added that this is believed to be an inside job and that further investigations will be done into the robbery.
