UOG student President on the run from police

Eastern Highlands police are on the hunt for the President of the Student Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Goroka (UOG).

Provincial Police Commander, John Kale said Chris Ambai escaped from hospital before police could apprehend him yesterday morning in relation to student protests this week.

He said Ambai may be hiding on campus.

He said four students involved in the protests detained at the Goroka police cells were taken to the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) for questioning where formal charges are expected to be laid.

He said two students, one a female student leader are still recovering from injuries sustained in Thursday’s melee.

The campus is tense but quiet and the University Administration remains silent on the matter.
