UNITECH take their fight to the streets

The students at the University of Technology in Lae, Morobe Province, will take the fight to remove Prime Minister Peter O’Neill to the streets.

UNITECH Student Representative Council president David Kelma, in a phone interview with Loop PNG today, said students will be doing awareness in major towns to educate the public on why the students are boycotting classes.

The awareness will start tomorrow (Wednesday) in the Highlands and Momase provinces.

“Students have already arrived in Goroka, Jiwaka, Mt Hagen and Madang today,” Kelma said.

The SRC president said the students have created booklets and will be doing awareness and educating the public about two topics.

“The continuous undermining of the country’s Constitution and the current state of the economy.”

Students are expected back on campus on Thursday to plan for their next action.

Kelma praised the students for being responsible in their boycott of classes for the prime minister to step aside.

Meanwhile, the University of PNG Council this afternoon suspended semester one for an indefinite period (see separate story).
