Union issues warning to security companies

The PNG Security Industry Workers Union (SIWA) has issued a warning to security companies that any ‘intimidation and discrimination’ of its own employees must stop.

In a press conference held today at the PNG Trade Union Congress office, SIWA President, Clemence Kanau made this statement after claims from some G4S employees that they have been continually harassed and intimidated by senior management at the workplace.

“The PNG SIWA is in receipt of numerous statements of complaints from its members about management tyrannical behaviour in handling grievances at the workplace,” said Kanau.

Acting General Secretary of the PNG Trade Union Congress, Anton Sekum added that on there is no place for intimidation and discrimination in the workforce.

“There are labour legislations that were specifically drafted to protect the workers in this country. The same legislation protects the employees of security companies,”said Sekum.

Sekum and Kanau said the complaints received will be investigated further.
