It has been a year of superior viewing for watchers of PNG’S first ever digital entertainment channel, TVWAN, with Digicel Play’s free to air channel continuing to revolutionise the home viewing experience.
Since its launch, TVWAN has offered viewers the most comprehensive grid of all the Papua New Guinea channels including its in-house produced Business Plus PNG, TVWAN News Review and Profile PNG current affairs shows as well as a selection of the latest international movies, series, and lifestyle programmes.
It shows no signs of slowing down with age either, with a new programme line up launched on November 16, featuring current affairs shows such as ‘Foreign Correspondent’ and ‘60 Minutes’ as
well as Australia’s biggest renovation reality series, ‘The Block’.
There was an early present for rugby league fans with TVWAN Rugby launched in September. Having already showcased the Rugby World Cup in high definition, the revolutionary 24-hour channel is set to screen every minute of the 2016 and 2017 NRL seasons exclusively and free.
“Digicel Play is the pioneer in building the future of television in PNG. Our offer is unmatched in terms of choice, with a particular focus on local news and sports,” says Digicel Play CEO Ralph Siebenaler.
“The construction and roll-out of digital terrestrial TV (DTT) transmitters in 7 cities is perfectly in line with the guidelines adopted by the government for switching the country completely to digital television by the end of 2017.”
Digicel Play is accessible in all other parts of PNG via direct-to-home satellite (DTH), which covers 100% of the country.
The penetration of pay TV has more than tripled in one year from less than 5% to over 16 % of all TV households since Digicel Play was introduced. .
As it stands, more than 310,000 people are currently able to benefit from free-to-air channels such as TVWAN and TVWAN Rugby among 27 other additional pay TV subscription channels.
The one-off cost of 240 Kina for a Digicel Play Box including antenna is required to access the channels, which offer fans more choice and a brighter and clearer digital picture.
