Truck crashes outside busy shopping area

A tipper truck belonging to an Asian owned company Tawap Investment got out of control while heading down the Poreporena freeway towards Konedobu this morning.

The truck, according to traffic officers, veered out of control opposite the SVS Harbour City shopping area and ran through the opposite lane,  taking out one moving CRV and seven other parked vehicles.

According to a dazed eyewitness, Maria John, who was using a BSP ATM at the time of the accident, the driver appeared to have lost control of the truck which ploughed into the cars.

Traffic officers say that the incident took place at around 9am.

The driver of the truck was rushed by a police unit to the hospital while the company owner and affected car owners have all been advised to go to the Boroko Traffic Office to lay official complaints with the officers there.

Meanwhile drivers along the freeway are being advised to exercise caution as the truck which was heavily loaded with gravel is still tipped on its side with the road yet to be cleared of the gravel which has been thrown out by the force of the crash.
