Tourism expo gets K200,000 boost

The Lukim PNG Nau Expo has received a sponsorship boost of K200,000.

Office of Tourism, Arts and Culture presented the cheque today from its Tourism Development Program funds to PNG Tourism Promotion Authority (PNG TPA) to assist with preparations for the expo.

The Lukim PNG Nau Expo and Tourism Week are scheduled from September 21-27 in Port Moresby, at Stanley Hotel organised by the Tourism Industry Association (TIA) and PNG TPA.

Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture Tobias Kulang said the weeklong event is very important in tourism development as tourism is an economic driver and a contributor to PNG’s development.

“We are very happy to support this event which is set to be the tourism flagship event of the year,” Kulang said.

TPA marketing director Alice Kuaningi said preparations are going well with a number of events and activities throughout the week.

The Tourism Week is regarded as the most important event for tourism in PNG and includes a marketing training and workshop, the National Tourism Conference on Sept 23 and the Expo from the 25-27.

The week program also includes the PNG TIA annual general meeting and familiarisation tour for TPA’s international sales agents and marketing representatives.  

Kuaningi said, “There’s a lot of potential of tourism in the country so we’d like to showcase to the world what we have on offer, and we’re also inviting international marketing managers to attend.

“We are very excited as there’s a good number of tourism operators will be exhibiting.”

The expo will be held at the International Convention Centre (ICC) and the marketing workshops and training will be held at the Stanley Hotel.
