Toropo: Student assault probe not over

The PNG Defence Force has confirmed that more soldiers have been identified in the assault of a secondary school student in July of this year.

However they were not forthcoming on the progress of the investigations.

PNG Loop was told by the PNGDF Commander Gilbert Toropo that the holdup is with the furnishing of the progressive report to his office by military investigators.

Toropo says that the investigations are far from closed as more soldiers have now been identified but stresses that proper process must be followed through in terms of the investigations by military investigators.

He says that it's most likely a military court will also be held with regards to the four soldiers who are in civilian court in relation to the attack on the youth.

However Toropo says that this can only happen once all suspects have been processed and charged under the military code then handed over to police to go through the civilian law and court processes.

Then following this all the identified suspects will need to face a military court martial where they will then be charged under the military code of conduct.

Toropo says that his administration takes a zero tolerance on such acts of mob mentality and assures that they will deal with all personnel who are found to be connected to this assault case.
