Tkatchenko: Three RL World Cup matches to be played in Port Moresby

The three 2017 Rugby League World Cup matches to hosted by Papua New Guinea will only be played in Port Moresby.

Sports Minister Justin Tkatchenko revealed to Loop PNG today after the official announcement of the tournament draw in Australia yesterday.   

Australia is the major host of the international rugby league tournament, while PNG and New Zealand are co-hosts.   

“The World Cup Committee and Organizing officials have done their tours for the last 6-8 months of our facilities and have basically decided on the National Football Stadium

“National Football Stadium is customary designed for the purpose of rugby league and with that the three games will be played there,” Tkatchenko said.  

He said visiting international teams will be in the country for three weeks and will be given the opportunity to visit other centres of the country. 

PNG Kumuls will play United States of America and the other two qualifying nations from the European qualifiers.
