Titles will be given to NHC tenants: PM O’Neill

The National Executive Council yesterday reached a decision ordering the issuing of titles to legal home owners in a landmark decision.

Prime Minister Peter O’Neill told Loop PNG this morning that “NEC has decided that there will be no evictions and that people living in houses that were allocated will be given titles.”

The long delay was because NHC claims it had not received any payment for the properties already sold because of a wrong deduction code with the Finance Department.

“These payments are between two government agencies and we will put in internal arrangements, they have nothing to do with tenants and those who have been identified and true owners the titles will be issued,” O’Neill said.

The decision followed media reports of evictions of many current tenants of NHC properties who claimed they are the legal owners.
