Timetable out for athletics national champs

Athletics PNG has released the timetable for its national championships which will be held in Lae on the Queen’s Birthday weekend next month.

The championships that will run from June 10-12 at the Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium and will follow the same format as recent years.

Events will begin on Friday afternoon with the men’s 10,000m final, the women’s 5,000m final, heats in the 400m and the semi-finals for 800m in the open and under 18 men’s divisions.

Events continue on Saturday and Sunday with a full range of track and field events in both open and under 18 divisions.

There are only seven events offered for the under 16s with 100m , 200m  400m  800m , long jump high jump and javelin.

For for the under 14’s, only the sprinting events of 100m, 200m and 400m are offered.

Athletics PNG has advised that teams are required to submit their entries including date of birth for all athletes to Philip Rehder by June 3 at the latest through email to prehder@global.net.pg   

Details of team nomination fees and entry fees as well as the timetable and competition rules can also be obtained from Rehder.

“All teams are warned that late entries will incur a penalty fee of K10 per athlete and no new entries will be accepted at all after June 9.

“ Member associations of Athletics PNG are reminded that to attend and vote at the Annual General Meeting (AGM), they must comply with the requirements of membership which are to pay their affiliation fee, provide a list of officer bearers and submit a written report on their activities for the past twelve months,” said Athletics PNG.
