Teteh: Dedication and commitment is key

SP Hunters centre, Thompson Teteh says dedication and commitment is what has brought him this far in his career.

Teteh will reach a milestone this Saturday when he plays his 50th game for the Hunters against the Souths Logan Magpies at home at the National Football Stadium.

The 27 year old from Eastern Highlands started on the path to success playing in the school boys and Goroka League competition in the U19 division.

By 2008, he was starting to make his mark being selected in the Goroka side that played in the Highlands Zone championships.

It was after this that Teteh got drafted into the Goroka Lahanis side and played for his home team up until 2012. In 2013, he played one season with the Lae Snax Tigers.

“I got the call up in 2014 to play with the Hunters and have been playing now for 3 seasons in the Intrust Super Cup. I've also had the honor to play for my country.

“My most memorable moment was scoring my first try in the Hunters first game in the Intrust Super Cup against the Redcliffe Dolphins in 2014,” said Teteh.

Teteh who is also a student at the International Training Institute says he is managing to balance both his school work and rugby league.

“The Hunters management have been very supportive allowing me to finish 30 minutes early from training to go to school.

“I also study whenever I can in the bus to training or in the plane traveling to Australia.

“I am very thankful for the all the support from the Hunters, the coach Michael Marum and my team mates and family,” said Teteh.

Asked what advice he has for young boys and girls playing rugby league, Teteh reiterated that dedication and commitment is key.

“For me, I know there is always room for improvement. When you succeed in somethinng, be humble about it and put your head down and keep aiming high,” said Teteh.
