Terminated PPL boss case deferred

The decision of a National Court proceeding filed by terminated PNG Power Executive Director John Mangos has been deferred to next week.

The matter was supposed to return before acting Judge Danjo Koeget today for ruling however it was deferred to next Tuesday.

This is from an application filed by Mangos at the National Court seeking to remain on the PNG Power payroll as he says his termination was not on directions of the National Executive Council.

The matter last went before the court on Jan 14 where his lawyer, Mal Varitimos told the court his client was appointed by the NEC as the Executive Director of PPL and appointments of the NEC can only be revoked by the NEC itself.

PPL Lawyer Erik Andersen submitted the proceeding before the court should be dismissed as there are no serious issues to be tried.

He maintained that although Mangos has been terminated as the Executive Director of PPL he remains as a Director without any executive power to this day.

Mangos was appointed as a Director of the PPL Board as per an NEC gazette notice on April 23, 2015.
