Team Sepik steps up for Kimbe PNG Games

Team East Sepik will be looking forward for the 2016 PNG Games in West New Britain Province when they start trimming down their squad in April.

Prior to the provincial games held in November last year, the team had identified a number of potential players and is now ready to reduce their numbers to travel.

East Sepik Grass Roots Games Chairman Clarence Hukahu told PNG Loop they will have three stages of trimming which will coincide with the school holidays.

“Many of our potential reps are students, who are going to participate in the trial games. That is why we will have the squad trial matches during the three school term breaks to finalise our travel squad,” Hukahu said.

“The trimming of the squads will start in April during the term one break and the second will fall in early July during the term two holidays whilst the final team will be further sorted in October,” he added.

Hukahu also added that with the final team set, they are planning on signing in some of the high performance personals to conduct training with the final squad.

However, despite administrative problems and funding difficulties Team East Sepik will move forward to set up its squad for the PNG Games later this year.
