TB cases almost triple in two years

Tuberculous statistics continue to rise despite millions of Kina invested to combat the disease.

National Department of Health (NDoH) National TB program manager Dr Paul Ain said statistics from 2013 was 11, 000 cases.

In 2015 it almost tripled to 30,000.

“There is an increase in the number of cases being reported maybe because we are improving our reporting system and diagnostic component.

 “The National TB program has drawn up a  strategic plan in line with the national Health plan 2016-2020.

Dr Ain said the department needed K80 million to effectively implement the program.

The three provinces considered high risk by are Gulf, National Capital District and Western Province.

Currently NDoH is partnering with other non-government organization and the Australian Government to implement its TB Program.
