Tara was seeking MP’s help when breakout happened

Suspended Buimo Jail Commander Superintendent Judy Tara had just finished discussions with Lae Open MP Loujaya Kouza at the CS institution about over-crowding and beefing up security when the Jail breakout occurred.

A situation report by Tara which was presented to newly appointed CS Commissioner Bernard Nepo,  on Friday Feb 26 at Buimo in Lae said:  “I had just finished with the Member for Lae Open Honourable Louzaya Kouza to give her a brief on the situation inside the compound at 1pm regarding the huge over-crowding and was discussing with her the for possible assistance for the  outer perimeter fence and additional accommodation for the staff.”

Tara’s report said: “The Member gave instruction for us to do a quick submission for the perimeter fence and the staff accommodation and give it to her on Monday for the DDA  meeting on Tuesday.

“So after she (Member) had left the office, I went with the industrial officer to the old single barracks  to provide a drawing. I then went to the contractor at Unitech to get them to give me a quotation for the security fence.

“I was still there when I was informed of the escape at 2.10 pm. I quickly got on the phone and got the Metsup Mr Wagambie Jnr to get assistance who responded very fast and got the mobile squad to assist which saw the recapture of 30 detainees,” Tara’s report  said.

Meanwhile, according to the report of the total 94 who escaped 30 were recaptured while 64 are still at large.
