Sunny likes what he reads on PNG Loop

Sunny Kom, from Sinesine in Chimbu Province is a young man who has an intrinsic leadership yearning hidden deep within him.

Only 33-years-old, Sunny seems to have a simplicity that seems to be contagious. He is slowly realising his natural gifts. One of them is literally he has the “gift of speaking in tongues.”

Sunny can speak the six different dialects of Chimbu which is what makes him attract people from all corners of this mountainous and landlocked province.

On the streets  of Hohola 3 where he lives, Sunny is an integral part of the community, be it sports, cleaning  of the street and even stepping up, if need be to curb violence. Sunny likes to be involved.

But there is more to this young man than first meets the eye. Sunny is a graduate accountant from the University of Technology in 2008, and operates as a private entrepreneur and works at his own time.

He is passionate about the future and likes to be involved in discussions about developments on social, political and economic issues.

But lately he seems to have an uncanny ability in understanding the latest technology.

“I really like Loop PNG. This online news service is the way forward for media in this country,” he smiles showing a row of betelnut stained teeth.

“I say this because when I first discovered Loop PNG on my phone, I was very interested and I kept following and reading the news. The impressive thing about this online news service is that I get to read breaking news as it happens.”

“This is very good because at the rate we are going. Who would want to read a newspaper with old news. So when I read news on Loop PNG I know I am 24 hours ahead of the rest.  It makes me excited that is why I follow Loop PNG.”

Sunny  also gave his advice as to how Digicel has revolutionalised communications in PNG and the Pacific adding that more needed to be done to get down to the ordinary people. He said one way was to strengthen PNG Loop’s capacity to get stories from all over PNG.

“PNG Loop must set up a real time news system so that people everywhere can send in stories and pictures that can be used on the online news service. People want to read real time stories and pictures. This is the way forward for Loop PNG,” Sunny explained.

Sunny said when he started subscribing to Loop PNG … “I stopped buying the daily newspapers because I am able to get most of the news online.”

However, that aside, Sunny on Christmas  Day sent out word to his people that he would be having a feast to celebrate the festive season and  sure enough they arrived by the truckload, by PMV, on foot or by whatever way they could to celebrate.

Sunny surely does have a way with people. He is definitely a leader in the making for the future.
