Sports Education program to empower executives

Twelve national sports federations and sports and physical education executives are currently undergoing a two- week Sports Education training at the Sir John Guise stadium in Port Moresby.

The programme which started on Monday July 4, is supported by the Papua New Guinea Sports Foundation and coordinated through the Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee to develop in-country Master Educators and Educators of Managing Sports Organizations, Sport Administration in the Community and Community Coaching and Officiating coordinated by Oceania National Olympic Committee (OSEP).

A PNG Sports Foundation senior sports excellence officer Geoffrey Gideon said the program is a well vested and advanced training that gears the educators to master the skills in educating the Sports administrations and community coaching.

“After this training, the twelve of us will be certified as master educators, and as master educator, we will than work with the educators so the educators will work with the practitioner (coach or administrator) to deliver efficient basic skills and knowledge of administration at a community level,” Gideon said.

Adding that this training is the partway to set standards and discipline in sports and administration from the top to the community level.

Another woman from master educator’s class, Sports Foundation Program, Ability and Partnership Manager Sophie Tuna said the two days master training has geared her better in running and facilitating her program at the community level.

“The training vastly helps me to plan, prepare and be aware of the participants when coordinating workshops or training professionally to the educators whenever I conduct local training,” Mrs. Tuna said.

The Master educators training between facilitators and mentors from the OSEP will end this afternoon as tomorrow will see their first test in coordinating with the educators.
