SP Sports Awards deadline for nominations extended

The deadline for nominations for the 2016 SP Sports Awards has been extended to April 15.

Organising Committee Chairperson, Andrew Lepani said it now gives the public, sporting bodies and anyone else interested in nominating for the awards a further two weeks to put together their nominations.

“We are pleased to already have a number of nominations submitted and we are confident that with the extension of the deadline we will be inundated with more nominations for the 2016 SP Sports Awards,” said Lepani.

There are 11 award categories up for nomination:

  1. Male Athlete of the Year – Best International Performance by a male athlete in 2015
  2. Female Athlete of the Year – Best International Performance by a female athlete in 2015
  3. Team of the Year – Best International Performance by a team in 2015
  4. National Performance of the Year – Best National Performance by a male athlete, female athlete, or team in 2015
  5. Community Sports Initiative – Best use of sport to help address social issues at a community level in 2015
  6. Junior Male Athlete of the Year – Best Performance by a male athlete who was 18 years and younger in 2015
  7. Junior Female Athlete of the Year - Best Performance by a female athlete who was 18 years and younger in 2015
  8. Best Sportsperson with a Disability – For athletes with a physical or intellectual disability who have performed outstandingly in 2015
  9. Sports Official of the Year – For individuals who have excelled as a Coach, Referee/Umpire or Administrator in 2015
  10. Sports Photo of the Year – For best photo taken in 2015 capturing a sporting moment at any level of sport
  11. Sports Media Award – For media coverage of sports or a sporting event in 2015 by an individual, programme, organisation or online site.
