Soldiers’ case adjourned for submissions

The case of six soldiers allegedly involved in the death of Salvation Army Student in Port Moresby has been adjourned at the Waigani Committal Court for another month.

Jude Nidung, David Travolta, Gregory Tuaki, Alwin Matiabe, Tobias Samson and, Kenneth Yangun briefly appeared before Magistrate John Kaumi today. They will be expected back in court on June 28.

Their lawyer is also expected to present submissions before the court next month in response to the completed police hand-out brief or investigation files that were served to them following their re-arrest in March.

The soldiers’ case was struck out on March 16 at the Committal Court after investigators failed to produce completed investigation files in time before the court.

They were re-arrested in March 24. They are currently out on National Court bail of K5,000 each.

It was alleged the soldiers were involved in a fight with students from the Kilakila Secondary school during a cultural show at the Coronation Primary school on July 25, 2015.

The fight resulted in the grade 11 Salvation Army student, Jeremiah Yinu being hospitalised after receiving life threatening injuries. Yinu lost his life in October last year.
