Ship visit surprises local islanders

The equator is currently at the doldrums which means there is no sound of the waves or the wind.

But recently the quietness was disturbed by the sound of a tourist vessel arriving at Panuselu village, Rambutso Island, Manus.

It stopped far offshore and then took off before village leaders could find out about their program.

The Vessel is not new to the island but the islanders keep wondering who actually makes the deal.

The tourist vessel "True North" has been visiting the island on a one off visit each year.

Chairman of the culture group that entertains them, Kepui Gabriel is unsure who made the deal.

"Since they arrived three years ago, we just adhere to the instructions by our LLG to do something. But then no one really benefits", he said.

He expressed concern that the Manus Tourism Office hasn't been explaining anything to them.

"We were not even aware of this visit and it is embarrassing. He called on the office to properly coordinate tourism activities in the province.
