Semester one at UPNG suspended for indefinite period

Semester one at the University of PNG has been suspended for an indefinite period.

Acting-chancellor Dr Nicholas Mann announced this in front of the students this afternoon at the university Forum Square.

The suspension will take immediate effect as of today.

The students will vacate the campus within 48 hours of the Council's decision. All support amenities for students will also cease within 48 hours.

Mann told the students that this is the best way forward and there will be a reorganisation of semester one so that semester two will not be compromised.

SRC president Kenneth Rapa welcomed the decision but demanded that all their airfares and refund of the rest of semester one school fees must be ready before they vacate the campus.

The situation is currently tense with police presence on ground.
