Police in the Highlands region and Madang Province are on high alert as the manhunt for prisoners that escaped from Buimo jail last week Thursday continues.
Provincial police commander for Madang Jacob Singura says he has increased surveillance at the Tapo quarantine on the Ramu Highway with random searches has been conducted on vehicles going in and out of Madang.
Madang police are working alongside with the Lae police to identify and recapture any escapees that might try to cross the border into Madang.
He says Lae police have a database system so at the moment they are waiting for names and photo identification of the prisoners who were processed at Buimo.
He said this is so that they can identify who exactly is among the group of escapees they will be dealing with.
