Schools urged to clean up before classes begin

Schools throughout the country have been urged to clean up within the next two weeks before the 2016 academic year begins.

The school year starts on 25 January for teachers and 1 February for students.

In the past, it has been noted that schools delay classes because they use the first week to clean their school grounds.

Department of Education has requested school caretakers, principals, head teachers, members of the Boards of Management and Governing Councils, teachers and parents to organise themselves before the first week of classes.

Acting Secretary for Education, Dr. Uke Kombra has requested that they use the remaining two weeks to clean the school grounds and facilities including classrooms, libraries, computer labs and offices.

He says that it is important the students return to a school, classroom and school ground that is clean and ready for a full day’s lesson on Monday 1 February.

“Our children’s education is of importance and schools around the country must take this notice seriously and start cleaning their school grounds,” said Dr Kombra.
