Sabeto Roosters ready for Rabaul Gurias

Fiji Vodafone Cup premiers Sabeto Roosters are set to take on 2015 Digicel Cup champions Rabaul Agmark Gurias on Saturday at the Sir John Guise Stadium.

Sabeto Roosters will not take the home side lightly when they clash in the Melanesian Club championship.

Sabeto coach Voate Naravu said they’re here to win and are confident despite not knowing much about the Gurias.

The Fiji side will be banking on top players like Tevita Niusama and veterans Semisi Qoro, Viliame Rakuli and Roger Qoro.

“It’s good to bring the team out to get international exposure and allow the players to gain more experience.

“PNG has a very strong and tough competition so we must be well prepared and we hope that our players get scouted as the standard here is much higher,” Naravu said.

Gurias named a 20 man squad on Monday. The team will be trimmed to 17 players and is coached by Steven Nightingale.

The squad boasts both young talent and experience and sees the inclusion of the experienced Pidi Tongap, Kumuls captain Albert Patak,  Watson Boas and youngsters Joe Tabutabu Jr, Lance Kuveu and Samuel Hamari.

The match is said to promote and enhance the respective national competitions, and give the local teams something extra to aspire to.

It will also provide an international competition for our elite domestic teams and players to compete in.

The concept has been endorsed by the International Rugby League Federation and Asia Pacific Rugby League Confederate.
