Saba front man dies in Honiara

Lead singer and front man of popular Solomon Islands act Saba passed away at the Honiara Referral Hospital yesterday morning.

Rolley Bogese, aged 50, from Nagolau in the scenic Ysabell province,  died after a short illness.

He formed the popular Saba band in early 2000 and made successful tours with his band to Papua New Guinea and captivated the hearts of thousands of fans with their unique style and blend of music.

Saba also toured the Pacific extensively and has a huge following in many island nations.

Saba made a name for itself in many PNG households with songs like Ten Dollar Beach, Meri Papua and other favourites and Bogese's passing is bound to break the hearts of his hordes of adoring fans throughout PNG and the Pacific.

Ysabelle province is known for producing top class acts in the Solomon Islands like Kekene, Pagasa, Sisikiriti and the girl band Sisiva.

Bogese's own son, affectionately known in Pacific music circles as Young Davie is another of the music revelations from this part of Solomon Islands.

Preparations are underway in Honiara to have Bogese's body transported to his village for burial.

He is survived by his wife and children.
