Rush hour at Voco Point today

The Voco-Point passenger wharf in Lae has been packed to capacity as early as 6 this morning as Lutherans rushed to catch boats to ferry into Finschhafen for tomorrow's opening of the 30th Synod.

As Christians who travelled into Lae early this week rushed to organize their voyage with the Coastal Shipping Services, more turned up lately at the seafront, finding their own way to the venue through locally operated banana boats.

They came in bus loads from  the highlands region and elsewhere to attend the Evangelical Lutheran Church's bi-ennial gathering which is scheduled for next week.

Ferrying by boats is the only option to travel to the Synod venue for the majority as there is no road access between Lae and Finschhafen  however some faithfuls took the Bukauwa track on foot.

Boats started ferrying Synod participants from Monday.

Meanwhile Morobe Governor Kasiga Kelly Naru and other Lutheran parliamentarians  will attend the occasion, including church partners and international guests.
