Royals hold on to beat Butterflies in semi's

Royals held on to beat Butterflies 22-20 in the men's A Grade major semi-final of the Port Moresby Rugby Football League (POMRFL) competition this afternoon.

Royals hit the lead in the 17th minute through a try from winger William Aquila.

John Simon added the extras.

Royals leveled up two minutes right before half time when Muksy Ani dived over to score.

Ani converted his own try to put the scores at 6-6 at the half time whistle.

It was a tight encounter in the second half with Butterflies leading 20-16.

But a try in the 73rd minute to forward Lumba Ketowe gave the Royals the edge after Wabo Sonny slotted in the extras to steal the win.

In other results, the women's major semi-final saw Sisters beat Butterflies 12-0.

The U19 men's saw the Defence cruise over Kone Storms 14-6 while Brothers edged out Dobo Warriors  7-6.

Finals for the POMRFL will continue tomorrow.
