Ramu women do livestock training

A number of trainings on livestock husbandry and farm enterprises management trainings had been scheduled for this year for women in Ramu Nickel Project impacted communities in Madang Province.

Ramu NiCo Management (MCC) Agriculture Supervisor Allan Wawah in announcing this at the weekend, said these trainings would give the women first hand information on piggery, poultry and farm enterprises management.

“We see that social and economic indicators speaks for itself where many of the women do not have a saving culture, lack of involvement in income generating activities and most are illiterate,”  Wahwah said.

He added that Ramu NiCo provides support through logistic and facilitators for the trainings and will continue to work in partnership with them to see their business activities grow.

He said the training will help women become better financial managers and provide them the knowledge to better spend to make money, and  at the same time grow their businesses.

Wahwah said they will also facilitate with inviting bank officers to the rural area for the women to open their bank accounts to save their earnings.

“More than 150 women have asked us to find a bank and bring it to them to open account and we have agreed to see a bank that will help them open account to save money,” he said.

He said Ramu NiCo wants to empower women, people and youths to create wealth in support to the Government’s Vision 2050.
