Ramu NiCo fix section of Madang-Ramu highway

Motorists and pedestrians using the Madang-Ramu Highway along the section between Kawawar and Miraine roadside markets are advised to take extra precaution when travelling there.

Nickel/cobalt mine developer, Ramu NiCo Management (MCC) last weekend issued the precaution as its workers began work on building concrete foundations to its slurry pipeline which runs adjacent to the main Madang-Ramu Highway 42 kilometres out of Madang town.

The work currently being carried out by the mine contractors called MCC 19 is amongst other maintenance work Ramu NiCo (MCC) has been doing as part of its community assistance work to servicing the vital road link which serves Madang to Lae and the Highlands region of good and services.

Last week workers had to place safety warning signs near Kawawar market for motorists and the public safety as workmen are currently working using big machines. Temporary perimeter fences in form of iron railings have been erected to indicate work being carried out on the edge of the road.

Workers early last week began doing clearing work at the 40.2 kilometre area to build concrete foundation which would hold up the slurry pipeline.

Ramu NiCo (MCC) had been on a number of occasions maintained the highway when the roads were damaged. The company had used its own machineries and workmen to assist to maintain the public infrastructure.
