Ramu Nickel Project resumes operation

THE RAMU Nickel Project has resumed operation on Friday, July 1 following a conditional operating permission issued by Mineral Resources Authority on June 28.

President of Ramu NiCo Management MCC, Wang Jicheng, in making the announcement clarified that the Mines Inspectorate of MRA conducted a site verification of rectification in late June and issued the developer the conditional permission to resume HPAL (high pressure acid leach) train 1 and train 2.

Wang said the Kurumbukari Mine and Basamuk Refinery followed the operating procedure to restart the process and utility.

He added that the process plant at Basamuk is now being systematically restarted with two autoclaves and timing for full resumption of operation would be further advised.

The president said that the restart of system and further rectifications of HPAL Train number 3, it is important the Company keep its fundamental commitment to safety of workers and its assets.

It’s been almost three months since April 15 when a temporary cease order was placed following a fatality of a Chinese national and two injuries to PNG nationals on April 12 at Basamuk Refinery.

All employees from both Basamuk Refinery and KBK Mine who have been put on stand-by have returned to their work sites.
